How to redecorate your bedroom in one day

How to redecorate your bedroom in one day

by Katie Anderton

For some, the thought of decorating can be enough to make them settle for much less than they truly want deep down. It always seems like a time-consuming process – probably because it usually is - why couldn’t it be like those 60-minute makeover shows? Well, maybe an hour is a little bit too optimistic but one whole day is certainly possible. We’ve put together a few tips to make decorating your room in just one day totally achievable

The first thing you will need to consider is the preparation, meaning you need to evaluate your space; this includes measuring but also evaluating what is and isn’t working in your room and what you do and do not need. As your bedroom is your personal space, you’ll begin to realise that you often throw quite a lot of random bits and bobs in there – a clear out will definitely be needed.

Next, you’ll want to decide on what style and theme you want to go for and start ordering everything you’ll need. Now to be completely fair this might technically take more than a day (unless you’re planning on nipping to multiple stores early in the morning) but once everything arrives at your door, you can get started. Ordering online is a lot less stressful and much easier than travelling from shop to shop anyway. This will also be the time where you consider certain limitations such as a budget, time and space, spontaneous buys only really make you happy if you can actually use them…

If you’re struggling to decide what you want your shiny new bedroom to look like, inspiration is never far away. Magazines, Pinterest and interior blogs will give you a range of ideas that might just get your creative juices flowing. Plus, this will make you super excited about the big change. Once all the basic preparations are completed and all your items are waiting to be introduced to their new home, you’re ready to get started.

To begin you’ll have to empty your room, obviously start by changing the walls and floors (if you’re planning on doing this). Honestly, if you have neutral walls and floors then, unless you really want to, this is great and gives you a lot of flexibility when designing the rest of the room.

Next, start moving all your new furniture and decorative pieces in, this might even mean assembling certain things. Must-haves for bedrooms are; beds, cupboards, bedside cabinets drawers and lighting. Decorative pieces that make a BIG difference are; headboards, artwork, bedding, mirrors, rugs and lamps. If you’re totally stuck try and keep this as a checklist when ordering your things.

If you’re a bit stuck, we suggest neutral colours for your must-have pieces and then decorative pieces that go hand-in-hand with your colour scheme. Of course, you can change certain things after but once the day is over, you may be a little tired, but you’ll have your dream bedroom.

The best reward you will get from decorating your bedroom in one day will be the amazing feeling of waking up in a brand-new room that truly reflects your style. Why not give it a go?
